Week 4 Day 2

Today I attempted to add actual typed data to Google test map that I created last week, and just as the Week 3 Day 4 blog posting went, I had no issues with it. Fact checking, data and image gathering continues.

Week 3 Day 6 Blog posting

Since I have never created a map on Google Maps I decided to try out a few different areas, just to figure out how to create a map, and set a point on the map. I was able to accomplish that. On a continuous basis I am gathering facts and images on the first five locations and updating the data and images as needed.

While taking a 5 hour flight from Chicago to San Juan, Puerto Rico I decided to go over my project plan this week to determine what needed brushing up, and what needed to be accomplished for this week. Per the project plan this week, I will be working on:

2                .       Fact check all gathered data to make sure it is accurate
3                .       Gather images and fact check those
4                .       Update project plan
5                .      Last but not least post, and this will be done on a continuous basis

Locations Selected for Interactive Map Tour

During today's project coursework, I wanted to pick out locations that would serve as the spots that I will be displaying on my interactive map, I will say that there are 14 locations but they are not the final locations. By Friday night the final locations will be selected.

Course Project Plan

Today i was getting ideas down on paper as to how I will plan to create the interactive map. By Wednesday of this week, I will have the sites that I want to add to the interactive map. By Saturday I plan to have the entire project plan complete. Eight weeks to do a project of this magnitude does not seem like enough time but nontheless I will do my best, and I will put my best effort to get the best interactive map out there, so i can share it.

Course Project Selection

After a long thought out process, I have finally made my selection for my course project. For most of the week I was leaning on an Arduino project, but after going on their website and realizing that the project I wanted to do was not available on their website. So I went back to square one and restarted the project selection over. I was reading through the separate options that were available to us and I finally decided on an interactive map project. I am going to New York City this November and i have always had an interest in the Mafia. So I will be designing an interactive map project on around Mulberry street near Little Italy in Manhattan. I will be creating this map for myself, and for any others who express interest in it.

Online Market that Connects Consumers and Urban Farmers

A student who lives in London became tired of eating food that was faceless. Simply put the student wanted to connect a face to the food she was buying and consuming. This student created this project titled Hyperlocal Market. she created an online forum so to speak that connected the local grower with a consumer. This market was created with a map and it allows food growers to connect with consumers and retailers and this allows for the p[romotion of local commerce. Kudos to her for having a vision and following through with a plan and creation of this.

Google Overhauls Google Maps

http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2013/07/google-maps-update/

Google has decided to limit some of Google Map features to the general user. The catch they require these features to be used by Google+ users. One interesting feature is called the Latitude where it allows for the user to use his or her smartphone to check in to the virtual world using google maps, basically let all of your friends know where you are at. So for all of the Latitude users, I suggest you create a Google+ account so you can keep using it's unique features.

Apple lose's in court

Interesting article on Wired.com regarding Apple and e-book pricing. I think about how businesses and corporations are getting the best of consumers via ripping us off. This article on Wired.com points to a perfect example, Apple is guilty of conspiring with publishers to raise e-book prices. Unbelievable it's not bad enough that Apple controls what a consumer can put into their products such as the I-Phone. Now they conspired with publishers to raise the prices of E-Books that are very cost effective when it comes to publishing, because their is no need for products to print these books on.

I am taking GSP 475 Emerging Technologies, the course will be challenging but I expect to give it 100 percent and see where that takes me. this blog will also follow the progress on m course project, which at the moment I am unsure if I want to do something with robotics or some kind of online iteractive map.
